Debut

In this debut article, I will introduce you to my life, or what I'm sometimes tempted to call the 'Secret Life of Me', but I can not name my blog that because there exists a TV series called the 'Secret Life of Us' and I don't want to be called a copy-cat or be slapped with a multi-million dollar suit for infringement of Intellectual Property rights. For once I think I'd have made a great lawyer but...it wasn't my passion. Ok enough of the digression.

So what is so special about my life that would drive me to write and publish to the world a blog about me? Who am I, you might want to know. I am a nobody in this world. A Google search would yield no results. Read on and you will know who I am and why I am who I am.

My name is K.W. I chose to use my initials for the fear of reprisal. The world you and I live in is a cruel one and I would not want to risk my life and get bashed in the streets. I am a freelance journalist or a media practitioner, as those with an obsession for big names would like to say. I also engage small business activities. 'So what?' you might ask. That is not the reason for writing here today. The reason for writing today is to invite you to share and understand 'our' life. Yes our life, we who have been declared as a shame to mankind and the entire human race. You know who we are and you might be one of those who hates on us. I will not use those not so friendly terms you use to describe us, like queer, homos, fagots, or whatever! I will call us men and women of the alternative persuasion. Gay is a more universally accepted term which i might find myself using.

Welcome to our world and see how normal our lives are. The purpose of this blog is not to ask for sympathy, or gay rights, or legalization of same sex unions, but to show you how normal our lives are just as yours. You could as well be gay without knowing!

This blog will put you through the life of an ordinary Kenyan gay man, in a society where being of the alternative persuasion is a big crime. Well it isn't a crime and it’s perfectly normal as you will see. Let’s ride together.

  1. its another Saturday and am working at my desk at work, not particularly busy but you could say hiding away from life. Now, don't go thinking oh my god suicidal or drama queen, hear me out. as a single gay man there are days like this where I could be out there with a lover, loved one, companion, hanging out watching telly out on a drive but am not. reason: twofold. 1 am not in a relationship at the moment. no thanks for the pity party just get that am not in a relationship at the moment and am ok with that.

why I say hiding out from life is its not easy to lead the 'normal' life we want out there, we don't have the freedom, self expression or peace of mind to do some of the things we want to do. so even if i was in a relationship right now, there are certain 'boundaries' i cannot and will not cross for fear of reprisal. so why am i hiding out, cause some days its better to be anonymous and just watch the world go by.

ever have a day like that?

welcome to life as we know it. black, white, blue green, gay, straight, bi, trans... this is it.
